Biography

Season 20 Episode 32: Caroline Kennedy: The Next Generation

The eldest child of John F. Kennedy and Jackie, she is American royalty. But her life has been shaped by tragedy - the assassination of her father when she was six years old, and the accidental death of brother John Jr. in 1999. As the only surviving child, she has maintained her family's legacy. She was one of the founders of the Profiles in Courage Awards, given to an individual who shows the type of courage described in her father's book of the same name. She is also the president of the Kennedy Library Foundation, and an advisor to the Harvard Institute of Politics. She is an author as well, writing two books on civil liberties as well as The Best Loved Poems of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Profiles in Courage for Our Time. Ms. Kennedy is a mother of three, and has been married to museum exhibit designer Edwin Schlossberg. Successfully involved with family and country, she embodies the values her parents held and continues to serve as a scion of that well-loved American family.
