Biography

Season 3 Episode 34: Admiral William 'Bull' Halsey

In the darkest days of World War II, he exhorted his troops to "Hit hard. Hit fast. Hit often." Once the American Navy was ready to fight, he oversaw some of the greatest victories in its history. From his time commanding destroyers in World War I through his promotion to Admiral of the Fleet in 1945, this is the story of the man whose leadership inspired all those who fought with him and commanded respect from his enemies. In countless interviews, the men who served under the "Bull" recall the bluster, bravado and tactical skill of the legendary admiral. BIOGRAPHY presents the stirring life of a legendary warrior, a man whose legacy is defined in the minds and hearts of those who served him. In gatherings of WWII sailors to this day, the proudest of all are those who answer the traditional question "What ship were you on?" by saying, simply, "I was with Halsey."
