One day in 1934, Urano Suzu, a young girl living in Eba , Hiroshima City, is kidnapped while on her way home. However, thanks to Shusaku, a boy who was captured earlier, she manages to escape. Suzu returns home safely, but the events of the day seem like a dream. Time passes and it is the autumn of 1943. Suzu is helping out at her grandmother Morita Ito's house with her younger sister Sumi. Her aunt informed her that someone is at their house in Eba who wants Suzu as a bride. While rushing home, Suzu meets her childhood friend Mizuhara Tetsu (Murakami Nijiro), who has joined the Marine Corps . Suzu is confused as she thought Tetsu is the man. Meanwhile, at Urano household, Hojo Shusaku and his father Entaro are waiting for Suzu to return home. Suzu's father, Urano Juro, and mother, Kiseno, are embarrassed and continued their conversation. Shusaku says he had fallen in love with Suzu before, but when Suzu sneaks a peek into the house, she has no recollection of him at all.
