James Austen finds himself caught up in the strange case of a Polish girl living in London who appears to have become terrified by sudden explosions of family hatred. For Austen, the frightened Irena is strictly a private patient, but for Dawnay, she is the beginning of a trail which leads him to a deadly plot of political revenge.
